Well, I blame Walt for my lack of productivity for the last 24 hours or so. Since I received my package of books yesterday afternoon in the mail, I have been submerged in the text and the ideas of this book, Post-Rapture Radio by Russell Rathbun. Walt picked this up about a month ago and ever since he has been urging others to read it, just so he could have someone to talk to about it. Unfortunately, our move to Plano delayed my ability to pick this up sooner, but I’ve easily made up for lost time by finishing it in a little more than a day.
Now I don’t have the time to go over everything, but I can offer my recommendation, if it’s of any value. To me, it’s offensive, hilarious, and intimate. This book hits really close to home for me, and I bet it would for you too. If you have any skepticism regarding contemporary Christian culture and it’s church, then you should read this book. But be careful, because as soon as you think you’ve got the edge on the issues, he’ll come after you (and depending on who you are, you might get your feelings hurt or get offended and defensive). Like Walt said in his review, “No one is safe”.

Chris,
I’m glad you got to read it. I need to re-read now. It’s almost hard to think about because it’s so hard-hitting, I’ve forgotten the bite it takes. I can’t help but think it’s going to be one of those books that we talk about for a long, long time. But I don’t know. I just can’t believe it hasn’t overwhelmed everyone yet.
So, in order to whet the tastes of everyone else, make a veiled reference to one of your favorite parts that only those of us who’ve read it can understand.
Mine, either the Revelation definition or the Spelunking metaphors. But that’ll change as soon as I read it again.
Well, I’m still trying to understand how the book ended. I think I know, but I’m not sure. I’m also trying to figure out my favorite parts. I do like the definition of revelation. I was cracking up all the way through some of the journal entries (The Parking Lot, Maple Lakes Rotary Club), and I was hit hard by the thoughts on “wearing a tie” and “sitting on a stool”. Great stories too (Jesus in a Suitcase, the Televangelist).
You still need to help me out with the ending, though. I think it pretty much just blew my mind.
Yeah, John and I both came out with different takes on the ending. I actually didn’t figure out what I think happened until a while after I was done.
