I’m getting a little tired of coming here. Not that it isn’t nice to get out of the house and catch up on blogging and emailing, but it’s really frustrating not having a computer. Not having internet access, email, software, applications, all at my fingertips….this is definately making my life miserable.

The good news is that my computer can be repaired for less than I feared, but still more than I want. I don’t want to start spouting dollar figures, but basically, I wouldn’t blame myself for not fixing it because it’s well over a year old, I’ve already poured a good chunk of change into it, and I have no guarantee that no other problems would emerge. But, I would still feel a little guilty for essentially throwing away an otherwise perfectly good, powerful laptop just because I didn’t want to spend a little more to repair it. So, I’m going to probably repair this sucker and pray that it’s got a second life in it.

Another factor in all of this is the fact that I’ve been seriously talking with a good buddy of mine (the great Andrew Bradshaw) about jumpstarting a web/graphic design firm. We both have the creative talent and lack a full time job. This factors into the computer situation because if we were to do this, it would mean buying a new computer anyways. My laptop really isn’t suited for that kind of work. We would probably go to the Apple format, which is something I’ve been wanting to do anyways, and we would need to get some heavy duty software.

So anyways, we’re pretty pumped about the opportunity because we have the time, the raw talent, and even a few clients to make this happen. I still need to do some research and talk to a few people (I’m coming for you, Walt), but I think this is finally something I would love doing and make money doing so I can further pursue my other passion—missional church.

Other thoughts:

If you live in the Houston area, you better get the heck out of there. It looks like Rita’s packing quite a load and she ain’t playin around.

I’ve noticed that there’s a guy here at the library who I’ve seen every time I’ve come up here, and all I’ve seen him do is play billiards online. Weird.

The Mac Expo in Paris is this week and I’m dissappointed in the fact that it doesn’t look like they’re going to introduce any new or improved computers (I was hoping for an upgraded PowerBook).

I also want my computer back so I can change the songs on my iPod Shuffle. I’m a little tired of listening to the same loop of tunes while I visit the library.

I think it’s funny that the younger generation (us) is always trying to find cooler and slicker ways to use the computer. The older people I teach with are always cursing computers and trying to work them out of their lives.

I hate being unemployed. I get depressed and feel a little crazy.

    Good luck on both fronts.

Thanks yo. As far as being unemployed, I’m not depressed yet (I got pretty good at that in Abilene), but mainly bored. The only productive things I can do involves my precious laptop that I have a love/hate relationship with right now. As of now my life revolves around talk radio, hurricane Rita, and figuring out what to have for dinner.

Dude, I sooo have both. I’m letting Katy have the mini until I get a 20gig for christmas/birthday.

Before you buy that Apple, you should start your business so you could get a tax cut. Sorry for the business advice (as if I have any in the first place).

I want a Powerbook really, really bad too. But a guy at church told me to hold off because in the next few years they are putting Pentium Processors in them. Besides that, Alison doesn’t believe we need a desktop and a laptop but where else are you going to resort when one goes down? I wish I could convince her to my argument.

Yeah, I know about the Intel upgrade happening in late ‘06, but I obviously can’t wait that long. Good tip about the tax cut! Right now I’m trying to think of a good name for the biz.
