Happy days are here again. It’s a refreshing 66 degrees outside, cool, overcast, and dry. After a long, melting summer with weeks worth of triple-digit temps, I’m beside myself with appreciation for the cool and (hopefully) chilly days ahead. Although I’m a bit jealous of my former Abilene’s temp of 47 degrees, I’m not jealous of the rain they are getting. I like my cold weather either dry or frozen. I like my precipitation to come with attitude: either severe thunderstorms or ice and snow. I have little appreciation for just plain rain, especially when it rains for long periods of time.

In celebration of the long-awaited climate change, I’m taking Katy on an old-fashioned date at the great State Fair of Texas. Being an Oklahoma native, she’s never experienced the State Fair, Texas-style, so I get to introduce her to the corn dog that all other corn dogs aspire to be (I hear there’s a spicy version this year) and maybe we’ll partake in a funnel cake or two. The main event for me, of course is the Auto Show. I always enjoy checking out the hot new rides and sitting in my dream cars (I’ll be looking for you).

So, needless to say, I’m pretty pumped. I love the Fair (mainly the corn dogs and cars), the weather, and my wife, and that adds up to a good time. Let’s just not think about the $9 parking and deep-fried calories I’ll be packing away.
