I think I just blew my own mind today. This morning I posted a new music review on Sufjan Stevens’ latest album, Illinois. I’ve just recently gotten into Sufjan, so this is the only album I have of his. He has a previous release, titled Greetings From Michigan - The Great Lake State (he’s doing an album for every state in the country—whoa). Anyways, after writing my review, I couldn’t resist the urge to download the aforementioned Michigan album, so it was off to iTunes land. After the download, I popped it on the ol’ iPod and decided to reserve the listening session for when I make my grocery run at Walmart this afternoon.

So the time finally came and as I strolled into Wallyworld I firmly placed my earphones in and hit play. The music was great….very similar to the Illinois album that I’ve grown to love. I was almost done with my shopping, just perusing the frozen food freezers, looking for my Eggos and Pizza Rolls, when track number 13 came up. A slightly haunting, melancholy piano melody proceded, and as I listened, I immediately recognized this song. But from what? Is it another version of a song from the Illinois album? No…..I don’t think so. What was it?

It took about 15 seconds of play for me to make the connection. This song is on David Crowder’s new album. Now I don’t know about you, but to me, that’s amazing. I’ve only recently discovered Sufjan, and I’ve been a Crowder fan for years. What are the odds that Crowder would cover a song by this relatively unknown artist and I would end up having the same song by both artists on my “favorites” playlist? The song “Oh God, Where Are You Now? (In Pickerel Lake? Pigeon? Marquette? Mackinaw?)” is one of my favorites off of the Collision album and little did I know that Mr. Stevens himself originally penned the song. I know this is stupid to most of you, but to me, it’s an amazing coincidence. Two artists out of tens of thousands…..that’s just plain crazy. It’s blowing my mind.
