That's another point you could make in addition to the missional question. At the same time, you could turn to some of the Christian monastics who felt the only option was to escape from the world. During the Reformation, Anabaptists were kind of the same way (although they were persecuted) that they formed a subculture. While there may be some value in retreating from the world, I'm with you on the topic. We're all called to be missional and be in the world. You think that’s bad? Go check out Christian Exodus?
